Welcome Back to School

2017-2018 Welcome
Posted on 07/17/2017

Dear Grady County Schools Supporters:

The 2017-2018 school year is upon us and with this new school year brings new opportunities.  Opportunities to meet new administrators and teachers throughout the school system; Opportunities to begin classes in brand new facilities at Cairo High School and Southside Elementary School;  Opportunities to work with new English Language Arts materials in 6th – 8th grade; and each student and teacher have the opportunity for a fresh, new beginning.

We have 62 new employees this school year.  They represent all departments of the school system; teachers, paraprofessionals, bus drivers, cafeteria staff, custodial staff, maintenance staff, and administrators.  It takes all 632 of us working together to make our system better.  I encourage you to get to know our staff and to see where you can lend a helping hand.  Volunteers are welcome at our schools!

Student engagement leads to student achievement; our focus in the classroom this school year.  Academic achievement, while our main focus, is not our only concern.  We want well rounded students when they graduate from Cairo High School.  Our elementary schools provide the firm foundation our students need in order to be successful at the middle school.  The middle schools provide the building blocks necessary to support the education they will receive at the College and Career Academy to “top off” their education in Grady County Schools.  Our partnership with Bainbridge State University, Southern Regional Technical College, and Thomas University allows us to offer college classes on the Cairo High School campus during the school day.  Once again this year, we anticipate having students graduate with high school diploma, Technical Certificates, and Associates of Arts degrees.

Parents and community members, you are vital to the success of our students.  You are our children’s first teachers.  I encourage you to stay involved in their activities, volunteer at school, join the PTO/Positive Parents/Booster Clubs, and join us for lunch or breakfast one day.  Our school system is stronger because we have the support of the parents and community.

Our staff is preparing our children for jobs that yet to be invented; our teachers have the most important task of any in our county.  Thank you to all of our Grady County Schools employees for the job you do each day to make our children’s future better.  Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to make a difference in your child’s life.
